A laminate floor is a 3-part floor that consists of a wood-base core, a balancing backing and a high pressure laminate. These floors can be made to look like wood, stone, tile and other surfaces. They are extremely easy to clean and almost impossible to damage.  An added feature is that laminate flooring is produced without any materials containing dioxins and thus ensures a healthy living environment.  With its hygienic surfaces, it is the ideal floorcovering for people suffering from allergies. 

Scratch Resistant
Laminate products today feature a type of wear surface that resists scratching, denting and even burns better than many existing products. Many of the styles available feature wood grain-like patterns that take advantage of the popularity of hardwood.  Still other styles resemble natural stone as would be found in ceramic tile.  Laminates offer a cost effective trade-off for people wanting wood or ceramic.  Laminate floors are more scratch resistant than wood flooring and are easier to clean than ceramic tile floors with the sometimes higher maintenance grout lines. 

Installation Ease
Another reason for the increasing popularity of laminate flooring is its ease in installation. Laminates require much less demanding preparation of the subfloor because they are not glued directly to the subfloor.  Most of these products are glued or snapped together in a tongue and groove interlocking system.  This feature has made laminate flooring popular in areas where vinyl flooring was traditionally installed.
