Hardwood
Floors
Hardwood
flooring is beautiful, natural and can enhance the beauty of
any room. Wood flooring can actually increase the value of
your home.
Hardwood floors
today come in a wide variety of styles and colors that are
easy to install and maintain. One style, called strip
flooring, comes in strips with widths generally ranging from 1
1/2 inches to 2 1/2 inches. When strip flooring is used in an
area, it can make the room appear larger than it is. Another
style, called plank flooring, also comes in strips but they
are wider, usually from 3 to 7 inches in width. Plank flooring
can give a room a more traditional or country look. Parquet
flooring offers a series of wood pieces that create a
geometric design. This type of flooring offers a variety of
design choices.
Unique
Beauty
Part of the
beauty of wood flooring is that no two floors are ever exactly
alike. The natural characteristics of wood include variations
in color, grain pattern and knotting.
This is a
result of the growth process of a particular species and is
influenced by a number of factors, including soil, climate and
sunlight. Lumber used in flooring is graded based upon the
number of these variations, with clear grade exhibiting the
least number of natural characteristics beyond the distinct
grain pattern of each species. It is important to remember
that each plank or strip in a wood floor may differ somewhat
and will take stain differently. Darker stains mask the
natural variations in the wood more than lighter stains. The
lighter the stain, the more prominent the natural
characteristics. A white stain shows the most variation from
board to board. Keep this in mind when making your hardwood
flooring decisions.
Hardwood
flooring adds a unique warmth and beauty to your home. The
rich natural beauty and durability of hardwood turns any area
of your home into a fashion statement.
